There are voices that do not diminish with time — they deepen, accrue weight, become something closer to myth. Freddie Mercury was one of those voices: operatic and earthy in the same breath, capable of filling stadiums and stopping them cold in the same four-count. Love of My Life is Alex Grimmer's meditation on that presence — a hand-built portrait composed entirely from recycled vinyl records, their grooves and surfaces carrying the residue of music history even as they are remade into something new. The piece does not merely depict its subject; it holds him in the way that only certain works can, through material that was itself born to carry sound.

Each record in the composition was worked by hand — carved, cut, and placed with deliberate attention to how vinyl behaves: the way it catches light differently across its grooved and ungrooved surfaces, the way color shifts from pressing to pressing, the way a label becomes an element of the composition rather than an afterthought. This is not assemblage in the casual sense. Grimmer's process is slow and considered, building form from material that already has a life behind it. The result carries a particular density — physical, historical, and emotional — that no print or reproduction can approximate. What you are looking at is the only one that exists, and the only one that ever will.
